Deep warm skin — why does every "nude" lipstick look grey on me?

Can anyone explain why shades marketed as universally flattering nudes just go grey and chalky on deeper warm skin? I've wasted so much money on lipsticks that look beautiful in the bullet and horrible on my face. Is there a rule I should follow when I'm shopping?

The short answer is that "nude" in most marketing means nude for lighter skin. For deep warm skin look for warm taupes, terracottas, warm mauves and berries rather than anything with a pink or cool undertone. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Intense rather than regular Pillow Talk is a good example of a brand actually getting this right.
